On Tuesday night, Ken and I went to The Triple Door to see Vienna Teng.� While on our vacation a few months ago, Vienna and her musical partner Alex Wong played in the atrium of a crazy cruise ship into the wee hours of the morning.� So, no surprise Vienna was awesome.� She has a new album, Inland Territory, out that I highly recommend.

The exciting part for us though was the opening band, The Paper Raincoats, a duet of Alex Wong and Amber Rubarth (w/
Adam Christgau on drums — I hope that is his name?).� They were incredible.� We bought their new album Safe In The Sound (also available on Itunes).

Ken and I went into the bar of the Triple Door after the show and we couldn’t stop talking about them.� Not only do they have a beautiful turn of phrase in their lyrics, but their harmonies are sweet, joyful, and stay with you long after the show has passed.

They had such an effect on us that we left the show and planned on adding all sorts of texture, bass, drum, and fun to our own music.� I think that is the best compliment any musician can get.

So enough said, check them out.� They are good.� I’m lovin it.

A lot of my family loves the outdoors, but my cousin, Jason has taken his Grizzly Adams fantasy to a whole new fantastic level.� He is hiking the Appalachian Mt Trail, starting in Georgia�last month.� Our last report from my Uncle Steve is that he is in Tennessee/South Carolina.� I am loving that Jason is twittering the whole adventure and you can also check out the trail map.� I’m so proud of him, what an exciting adventure.� Travel safe Jay!

I’ve been helping a client to build their social networking, but here is the thing, I’m a terrible communicator.� I have a hard time picking up the phone to call family and friends I love, I get bored with being consistent on this blog (and I like having a blog), and very quickly move onto new ventures that “I’m Sure” I’ll follow through on — and don’t.

Several months ago, I signed at Twitter as vtgirl, and them more recently, Ken and I have been building a little personal site, so we got lauraandken just for fun. No problem right? But here’s the thing. . .friends are starting to follow me and I haven’t ever put up any messages.� Honestly, none.� Just the infamous “this is a test.”

Now I have to start coming up with witty 140 character observations of the world.� I’m setting myself up for failure here. . .

Sweet Valentine’s Day Goodies

Oh yeah, my baby loves me.

Ken and I have had two days of Valentine celebrations.� It started yesterday with a nice lunch at Farestart, a community group that owns a great restaurant in downtown Seattle.� Then to Banya 5, a spa/turkish bath.� We had full body salt scrubs, massages, and lounged in hot tubs all afternoon.� Then home for spaghetti and meatballs and a romantic movie — Wanted (which was neither romantic or fun for that matter). Then this morning a little brunch of coffee cake, fruit, and screwdrivers.

But above and beyond all the sweetness, my partner Ken got me the best little pink laptop.� A new netbook, so I won’t have to drag my giant mac book pro to interviews and meetings.� Not to mention that it also has a bunch of games I love.� I couldn’t be happier.� What a love I have.

Lapster and I saw a post a few months ago about using cargo containers as a house, and we have been a little obsessed ever since.� So cool.

� DIY: Wine Glass Candle Lampshades.

I think I’ll do this for Lapster’s birthday party in July.

� Blackberry Hints.

I bought my blackberry for a project I just completed, but never had a chance to pimp it out.� Now is my time!

So Lapster and I have had a very “Memorial Day” weekend — we went to see the new Indiana Jones movie (long story short — it was brilliant — will write more later), had a bunch of bbq’s at the house, and then we went to buy a bike for me.� Apparently, everyone else in Seattle had the same idea.� So after a trip to three different bike stores — I decide on this little beauty.� I love it. We went out yesterday for a quick ride on the Burke Gilman Trail (another perk of our house, we are just blocks from the best trail in Seattle).� I’m hoping this will kick start my fitness kick for the summer. Happy Memorial Day!

Sunday Morning Round-up

As always my work-life has become exciting and all encompassing. So much so, that Lapster is also volunteering a ton of time to make Seeds of Compassion event a success and it keeps getting more grand by the day. It started out as a four-day event — Now, we have a benefit concert, five days of events (several in the stadiums around town) and a ton of luminary speakers. I’m thrilled, but man, it is a lot to do in 60 days!

Yesterday, Lapster and I flexed our political muscles at the Washington State Caucus and helped to bring a big win for Obama. I forget now that I’ve been out of the campaign life for a few years, how exciting direct action politics can be. What a thrill to see so many new people excited about politics.

But this morning I’ve chosen to distract myself, take a few hours off to sit around, watch home decorating shows, and read some favorite blogs. Here are a few of my fav posts from my drive by blog reading:

So, here’s my new laptop that I haven’t donated yet to a child. I bought it so that I could share one with some child in the world ($400.00 got me one device, and the second was dontated) and because I love gadgets.

I wasn’t having fun with it until I found a new Jabber server to link up to (xochat.org).

Now, I have a community! We’re all hippy gadget freaks!

The computer is supposed to last for 5 years. Originally, it was supposed to have a crank on the side to juice the device up. That proved problematic and so a battery was installed instead.

It’s very easy to use, and comes with a built in camera, a microphone.

We finally made it – as a race of people, that is…

The mountain has been summited and a company is now selling energy efficient solar cells at inexpensive pricing and high output. This means there are more efficient and less expensive version to come, using a solar cell ‘printing’ technology developed by NanoSolar of California.
